Rebecca Amis Lawson, MA, R-DMT, RSME/T Movement Educator, Therapist, Dancer, Continuum Teacher

I am a Continuum Teacher, founding member of the Continuum Teachers Association, mentor, therapist, and group facilitator with 42 years of extensive studies in dance, psychology, somatic trainings, and exploratory consciousness. I received my MA in Dance/Movement Therapy from New York University and a B.S in Psychology from the University of Tennessee. Presently I am a somatic practitioner using the body and movement to facilitate the therapy process. In this practice, I coalesce psychological mindedness, a love of dance, and a heartfelt sense of humanity. I offer a therapy that is revelatory, expressive, and self-creating. I also teach Continuum classes and workshops Internationally.

In the field of Dance, I taught professionally for 30 years. I taught at the Broadway Dance Center and Morelli Ballet in New York City before moving to North Carolina in 1986. I was on Faculty at the American Dance Festival for the ’91 and ’92 seasons. I have taught at Duke University, Meredith College, and The Ballet School of Chapel Hill. I was the director of and sole choreographer for the “Whirlwind Dance Company” for 10 years.

As a therapist, beginning in 1980, I worked with a variety of populations including institutionalized psychiatric patients, children with emotional disturbances, children with autism, and persons with eating disorders, dissociations, and trauma issues. In my private practice, I worked extensively with individuals seeking personal growth and self-actualization via the body, movement, and experiential processes. I support clients in tracking somatic movement to support emotional and psychological inquiry.

I have had extensive training in alignment, ideokinesiology, effort/shape analysis, authentic movement, yoga, connective tissue massage and improvisational movement. I am certified in Gyrotonic® Movement and teaches individual sessions and classes.

Continuum has enriched my work as a therapist, as well as informing my own personal and spiritual journey. The essential elements of Continuum awaken a deep bio- intelligence which facilitates the emergence of one’s evolutionary potential. My involvement with Continuum has generated a new hope for individual freedom and greater resonance in the mystery.

I am infinitely grateful to Emilie Conrad for birthing the Continuum “Renaissance” and its exquisite teachings.  I have the great fortune to know Susan Harper as a mentor, teacher, friend, and colleague.  We co-teach many workshops and retreats. I am proud to be a member of the Continuum Teachers Association and blessed to have the privilege to offer this profound work.
